Week 6 - Blueberry Blitz

90 pounds of u-pick blueberries later...

Other items I had to order or buy from the farmer's market or local businesses: sandwich bread, honey, organic sugar and black tea (for kombucha), and more Einkorn wheat berries.
Expensive week, I blew through the budget pretty quick. However, we now have 17 gallon bags of strawberries, 17 of blueberries, and 4 of cherries in the freezer! We will definitely use them daily and save money not having to buy frozen fruit from the grocery store this winter :)

This week's gatherings:

4 jars goat milk - $16
CSA box - $25
Extra veggies - $8
One gallon raw honey - $50
Seeds (for fall garden) - $9
10 lbs Einkorn grain - $26
5 lbs organic sugar/1 lb tea - $40
2 loaves sandwich bread - $13
90 lbs blueberries - $160

For a whopping total of $347.

I'm not gonna lie, this week made a big dent in the pocket book. That about ends the summer fruit season, though. I should just have to buy a little each week for fresh eating from now on. In a couple weeks I start trading work for raw milk, which will also help cut costs. My folks' garden will start producing, apple trees can be harvested, and I will replant my raised beds for this fall!

  3. Well thanks! Strawberries and blueberries were from Farmer John's, raspberries were from Bernard's and Rowell Bros (in Scholls). Cherries were from a place south of Dayton.
